The World Championships were held in Munich, Germany over a two week period. Over 100 different countries and over 2000 athletes took part across all the shooting disciplines (Pistol, Smallbore Rifle, Shotgun and 300m Rifle). For the Olympic events it was the first available opportunity to win a quota place for London 2012.
But it was a very short and to the point competition for me. My Air Pistol on Sunday morning was my first match and just not my day! Unfortunately making a couple of mistakes and shooting 9.9’s, which are not 10’s, all adds up!
At 7pm of that day, my training began for Sport Pistol ready for the following morning. With the light dwindling due to great storms, this was made very challenging! But the sun came out on Monday. In my Precision I was much more successful at holding my concentration at 110% in that environment. But once again 9.9’s are not 10’s! That afternoon my Rapid Stage got underway well. Although 100% effort was put in, errors crept into my technique to wards the end.
With the World’s best shooters competing across all the disciplines, performances were excellent and very tight! For example, by the end of the Sport Pistol final, only a couple of points separated the top 6 shooters! And it went down to s Shoot-Off for gold! Still after 84 competitive shots it went down to the final shot of the 5 shot Rapid Shoot-Off series, to define the winner! With decimals all counting in the final and shoot-off the match was won with a 10.0 compared to a 9.9! Being one of the final matches of the Championships, it was a very fitting exciting climax!
