Ashfords on target with local Olympic hopeful
Leading South West law firm Ashfords LLP is delighted to confirm its support for Devon shooting ace Gorgs Geikie in her quest for Olympic gold at the London 2012 Games.
The 26 year old from Okehampton - who last year won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi - is aiming to fill one of the two slots now available to Team GB for the Ladies Pistol event. Great Britain's representatives will be announced in March 2012.
Gorgs, the reigning British Air Pistol Champion, shot a season's best in the European Cartridge Championships in Belgrade in August, and in the process achieved the required Olympic qualifying standard and earned Great Britain a second quota place in the 2012 Women's 25m Pistol Event. As the "Host Nation" Great Britain had been allocated one quota place for this event.
Jamie Horner, a Partner in the Ashfords Sports Law Team said: "We are very proud to be associated with Gorgs and hope that her talent, enthusiasm, drive and determination will put her on top of the podium next year. She is a role model for any aspiring young athlete and a pleasure to work with."
Gorgs said: "It is fantastic that Ashfords has decided to come on board. I am continuing to train hard and determined to reach my goal of winning a medal at London 2012. Pistol shooting is a very exciting sport, particularly as there are such fine margins - anyone could win on the day. The assistance given to me by all of my sponsors is greatly appreciated and crucial to me being able to have the best possible preparation in the run up to next year's Olympic Games".
